Day 10 Fasting: When the Body Lags Behind the Mind

The Split You Don’t Expect

Day ten brought something odd.

My mind? Sharp. Solid 8 out of 10. Alert. Focused. Mentally firing on all cylinders.

My body? Absolutely knackered. Started the day at a six, dropped to a four by afternoon. Muscle aches everywhere. Moving like an old man.

The scales didn’t budge. Not a pound. But everything feels like it’s firming up, even if the numbers aren’t shifting. I’ll take that win.

Sleep was dire last night. Four hours plus a cheeky one-hour nap around lunchtime that didn’t help. I’ve just felt sluggish all day.

And here’s the thing: this split between mental clarity and physical exhaustion? It’s completely normal around days 8 to 12.

Your brain’s running on ketones, which it loves. But your body’s still adapting. It takes time to catch up.

The Weird Disconnect

Picture this.

You feel great mentally. Alert. Sharp. Clear-headed.

You stand up from your chair. And you can barely move.

That’s where I was today. Mentally strong, physically dragging.

It’s annoying. But it’s also a sign that the transition’s happening. Your brain’s already made the switch to fat-burning mode. Your muscles are still catching up.

This isn’t failure. It’s just the natural ebb and flow.

The Butcher’s Shop Test

I walked past a butcher’s shop earlier.

The bacon smelled good. Really good.

And I kept walking.

No heroics. Just quiet stubbornness and a bit of distance from the deli counter.

That’s the thing about day ten. The cravings aren’t overwhelming. They’re just… there. A momentary pull. Something your brain notices and then moves on from.

I didn’t need willpower in the traditional sense. I needed the ability to recognize what was happening and keep my feet moving.

That’s a different skill entirely.

What Happens at Days 8-12

If you’re following along or planning your own fast, bear this in mind.

Around the 8 to 12 day mark, it’s common to notice big contrasts.

Mentally, you can be really alert. Mental clarity can be sharp. But the body can be lagging. Muscle aches and fatigue aren’t unusual at this stage.

Why?

Your brain’s already adapted to ketones. It’s been running on them for days now. Efficient. Clean-burning. Your brain loves ketones.

But your muscles? They’re still adjusting. They’re learning to pull energy from fat instead of expecting quick glucose hits.

That adjustment takes time. And during that time, you feel this odd split between mental sharpness and physical sluggishness.

It passes. But while you’re in it, it’s genuinely weird.

The Sleep Factor

I can’t overstate how much poor sleep colors everything.

Five days of barely sleeping. Four hours here, four hours there. A nap that didn’t help.

And suddenly, everything feels harder.

Not just physically. Emotionally, there’s a fragility under the surface. I’m okay, but I’m more delicate than usual.

Sleep is part of the recovery equation. Your body repairs during deep sleep. And when you’re not getting it? The whole system struggles.

If you’re fasting and struggling, prioritize sleep wherever possible. Even a short nap. An early night. Whatever you can manage.

I’m realizing how hard that can be right now. I normally sleep well. But right now? It’s just not happening.

I’m trying my best. That’s all any of us can do.

Movement as Non-Negotiable

Despite everything, I got out for a walk this morning. And another this afternoon.

Even when my body’s dragging, movement is non-negotiable for me.

Not about smashing records. Not about performance.

Sometimes it’s just about showing up.

Walking reminds your body that you’re still alive, still moving, still engaging with the world. It’s gentle. It’s low-demand. And it helps.

Remember Your Why

To anyone following this path—and to me in the future when it’s tough—remember your why.

Pause and ask: Is what I’m feeling just one of those normal fasting phases?

Most of the time, it is.

Muscle aches? Normal. Mental clarity despite physical exhaustion? Normal. Fragility from lack of sleep? Definitely normal.

And no matter what, every day is a new chance to look after yourself from the inside out.

This isn’t about losing weight. It’s about living with more energy, clarity, and intention—one honest day at a time.

🎯 Key Takeaways

Check if it’s a normal phase — Most discomfort at this stage is expected adaptation, not failure

Mental sharpness, physical exhaustion is normal — Days 8-12 often bring this split as the brain adapts faster than muscles

Scales didn’t move, body still changing — Firming up even without weight loss indicates body composition shifts

Sleep deficit amplifies everything — Poor sleep makes fasting harder emotionally and physically

Movement remains non-negotiable — Even gentle walks help when body’s dragging

0:00Hey everyone, it’s day 10 of my journey

0:03with way more than weight loss. I just

0:06want to share honestly about where I’m

0:07at because as we know, real progress is

0:10about much more than the numbers on the

0:12scales, which is a good job. They didn’t

0:15move today. But on the upside,

0:18everything feels like it’s firming up um

0:21even if the numbers aren’t shifting. So

0:23that’s a win. I’m happy to claim it.

0:26Today’s been a bit of a roller coaster.

0:28Mentally, I’m a solid 8 out of 10. Still

0:31going strong upstairs. Physically,

0:35oh god, it’s been a slo. I started the

0:37day at about a six, but as a war on

0:40dropped to a four. Um, I’ve got muscle

0:42aches everywhere.

0:45And to be fair, I’m moving around like

0:47an old man. Sleep was dire last night. I

0:50only got four hours and then a cheeky

0:52one hour nap sort of lunchtimeish to try

0:55and top up, but it didn’t help.

0:58I’ve just felt pretty sluggish all day.

1:01Emotionally, I’m okay. Um, but there’s

1:03definitely a bit of fragility under the

1:05surface. Today was harder. Um, again,

1:08and honestly, I’m just chalking that up

1:11to lack of sleep. It’s funny how much it

1:13colors everything. But I did get out for

1:16a walk this morning and another this

1:18afternoon. Even when my body’s dragging,

1:21movement is a non-negotiable for me.

1:24It’s not about smashing records.

1:26Sometimes it’s just about showing up.

1:29Cravings. Well,

1:32I walked past a booty shop earlier and

1:34oh my god, the bacon smelt good. But I

1:37kept walking past and managed to ride it

1:40out. No heroics, just quiet stubbornness

1:43and a bit of distance from the deli

1:44counter.

1:48Something to bear in mind is around the

1:518 to 12 day mark, it’s common to notice

1:54some big contrasts. Quite often

1:56mentally,

1:59you can be really alert. Mental clarity

2:01can be really sharp for quite a lot of

2:04people, but the body can be lagging. It

2:07can

2:11just take time to catch up. um which

2:14gives you this weird scenario where you

2:17feel great and you feel alert and you

2:19get off your chair and you can barely

2:21move.

2:22Um which is annoying. Muscle aches and

2:26fatigue aren’t unusual at this stage

2:28either. If you’re feeling fragile, it’s

2:32not a sign of failure. It’s just part of

2:35the natural eb and flow.

2:39Listen in, honor what your body’s

2:40saying, and remember, this is all part

2:42of the journey. As always, if you want

2:45the nitty-gritty science, pop back to

2:47the other videos, and they’ll guide you

2:50through what happens at different

2:52stages, days, etc., and you’ll see all

2:54of this.

2:56To anyone following this path and to me

2:59in the future, when it’s tough, just

3:01remember your why. Pause and ask, is

3:04what I’m feeling just one of those

3:05normal fasting phases?

3:08Most of the time it is. And no matter

3:10what, every day is a new chance to look

3:13after yourself from the inside out.

3:17If you’re struggling, prioritize your

3:19sleep wherever possible. And I’m

3:22realizing how hard that can be right

3:23now. Uh because I normally sleep really

3:26well and for five days I’ve hardly

3:28slept.

3:31Try your best. That’s what I’m doing.

3:34Even a short nap, an early night,

3:38hopefully will help reset how you feel

3:41both mentally and physically.

3:45Remember, this isn’t about losing

3:47weight. It’s about living with more

3:48energy, clarity, and intention, one

3:51honest day at a time.

3:54I’ll see you tomorrow.
