Day 09 Fasting: When Progress Feels Quiet

The Days That Test You Quietly

Day nine wasn’t dramatic.

No fireworks. No breakthroughs. No moments where everything suddenly made sense.

Just exhaustion. Lousy energy. And sleep that was woeful—maybe four and a half hours at best, lying there for ages unsure if I was actually asleep or just… there.

Not ideal.

But here’s what’s interesting. Despite feeling absolutely knackered, I’m emotionally holding steady. Seven out of 10 for mood. A bit fragile, yes, but stable.

Weight this morning: 13 stone 9 and a quarter. Down three-quarters of a pound. Small step forward.

And quietly, behind the scenes, something important is happening. My ketones, glucose, and GKI are all pointing me towards those deep autophagy levels—the ones linked to long-term health and yes, even cancer prevention.

That’s the kind of science-backed stuff that makes the tough days worthwhile.

When Sleep Fails You

Let’s be honest about what happens when sleep goes wrong during a fast.

Everything feels harder. Your body’s working overtime already—breaking down fat, clearing out cellular debris, repairing what needs repair.

And when you add sleep deprivation on top? It’s like trying to run a marathon after pulling an all-nighter.

The lack of sleep definitely made today harder. But hunger was manageable. No major temptations came knocking. That’s almost a win in itself.

Sometimes the victory is just not having to fight too many battles at once.

The Quiet Machinery

Here’s what I nearly forgot to mention.

My gut’s been calm. Everything’s functioning as it should. And while I’m not claiming any wins on the self-care front today—some days that’s just how it goes—my mind’s been pretty active.

Which is a nice reminder that not every part of you needs to be firing at once.

Physically sluggish? Fine. Mentally engaged? That’ll do.

I did have a few cravings creep in. Cheese and cream. Hopefully not together. But nothing I couldn’t sit with for a bit and let pass.

That’s the thing about fasting at this stage. The cravings aren’t emergencies. They’re just… notifications. Your brain checking in to see if food’s available.

Answer: Not right now, mate. We’re busy.

What Autophagy Actually Means

There’s a reason I keep mentioning the biomarkers.

Ketones. Glucose. GKI. These aren’t just numbers. They’re indicators of what’s happening inside.

When you hit deep autophagy—the kind I’m in now—your body is actively clearing out damaged cells, recycling old proteins, and doing the kind of housekeeping that doesn’t happen when you’re constantly eating.

Think of it like this: your body’s a factory. When you’re eating regularly, the production line never stops. Maintenance gets pushed to the side.

But when you fast? Production pauses. The maintenance crew finally gets to work.

That’s autophagy. And it’s linked to longevity, cellular health, and yes, reduced cancer risk over time.

Not bad for lying on the sofa feeling knackered.

The Long Game

If there’s anything I’d say to my future self—or anyone out there having a rough day—it’s this.

Even when it feels lousy, remember that it’s a world better than being ill and feeling lousy.

We’re doing this for real, long-term health. Not a quick fix. Not a 30-day transformation. The kind of health that lasts.

Autophagy is happening. The body’s clearing out what it doesn’t need. And every slow day is still progress.

Some days you sprint. Some days you shuffle forward. Both count.

Showing Up Is the Win

Today wasn’t fireworks. It was quiet persistence.

No dramatic insights. No sudden energy surge. Just sticking with it even when it felt hard.

And that, honestly, is the muscle you’re building. Not the one that performs brilliantly when conditions are perfect. The one that keeps going when they’re not.

So honour the tough days. Rest if you need it. Celebrate the quiet wins.

And keep your eye on the bigger picture.

🎯 Key Takeaways

Showing up is the victory — Simply sticking with it on tough days builds lasting discipline

Quiet days are still progress — No fireworks doesn’t mean no forward movement

Sleep matters — Poor sleep amplifies difficulty but doesn’t stop autophagy

Deep autophagy confirmed — Biomarkers (ketones, glucose, GKI) indicating cellular repair happening

Weight down 0.75 lb — 13 stone 9.25, steady downward trend continues
