The Day That Clicked
Day 12. This was the one where everything lined up.
Energy boundless. Body feeling firmer, more grounded. Mind sharper than it’s been in years. Not the caffeine kind of sharp — the kind where your thoughts feel precise, like you’ve cleaned the windscreen after months of road grime.
Sleep was broken into two chunks — five and a half hours, then two more this morning. But I woke feeling mentally dialled in. No fog. No drift. Just clarity.
Weight down to 13 stone 6 pounds. Progress steady. And the best bit? A tuna salad sandwich craving floated past at lunchtime and I let it go without fuss.
Days like this are proper fuel for the soul.
The Numbers Tell a Story
Here’s where it gets interesting.
Glucose: Rose from 5.4 to 7.0 mmol/L
Ketones: Up from 6.0 to 6.9 mmol/L
GKI: Nudged from 0.5 to 0.6
Resting heart rate: Dropped to 66 bpm (down from 70)
Now, you might look at those first two and think “hang on, both went up?” And you’d be right to question it. But this is where metabolic flexibility shows its hand.
Why Everything Went Up (But That’s Fine)
When glucose and ketones both rise slightly, it’s not a red flag. It’s adaptation.
The mild glucose bump could be movement-related or a small cortisol spike — completely normal. The fact that ketones also rose means my body’s still running deep in fat-burning mode.
GKI of 0.6? That’s firmly in therapeutic range. The kind of number that says “fat adaptation is working.”
Think of it like this: Your body’s getting better at switching fuel sources. Glucose ticks up a bit because you moved or stressed slightly. Ketones stay high because fat’s still the main engine. The system’s flexible, not stuck.
And the heart rate drop? That’s the real tell. 66 bpm means my body’s calmer, more efficient. Recovery’s improving.
The Real Win: Mental Clarity
The biomarkers matter, but they’re not the story.
The story is this: I feel alive.
My mind’s sharp. Not jittery-sharp, the way coffee can make you feel wired but scattered. This is clean energy. Focused. Steady. The kind where work flows and ideas land without forcing them.
My body’s catching up too. Firmer. Tighter. Like everything’s tightening into place after 12 days of letting the repair crews do their work.
I walked twice today — an hour in the morning, half an hour later. Both with a bit of sunlight. Drank plenty of water, a can of Aqualibra, a few black coffees. Topped it off with electrolytes and my vitamin D3 and K2.
It felt like a day well supported. No real challenges. Just a steady rhythm.
Lows Make Highs Matter
Here’s what I’d say to my future self — or to anyone else walking this path.
On the down days (and there have been several), when it all feels a bit much, remember: Better days do come.
Fasting isn’t a straight line. It’s a dance between highs and lows. Both matter. The lows teach you patience. The highs remind you why you started.
Day 12 was a high. But I’ve had days where energy dragged, cravings gnawed, and the whole thing felt like hard work. Those days are part of the process too.
If you’re tracking glucose and ketones, here’s a tip: Note the time of your readings. First thing in the morning versus midday can tell very different stories. Patterns matter more than single points.
Don’t panic over one reading. Look at the trend.
🎯 Key Takeaways
Patterns > single data points — Track trends, not one-off readings
Mental sharpness peaked — Clean, focused energy without jitters
Weight down to 13 stone 6 — Steady progress continues
Glucose and ketones both rose — Normal during metabolic adaptation
GKI 0.6 = therapeutic range — Deep fat adaptation confirmed
Resting heart rate 66 bpm — Body’s more efficient and calmer

0:03Hey folks, it’s day 12 of my health and
0:05fasting journey and what a cracker of a
0:07day it’s been. Physically, I’m feeling
0:10absolutely solid. Energy’s boundless.
0:13Sleep was broken into two chunks. 5 and
0:16a half hours followed by two later this
0:18morning. But despite that, I felt
0:20mentally sharper than I have in years.
0:23My body’s firmer, too. More grounded
0:25somehow with no symptoms to report.
0:28Moodwise,
0:29happy all day. No stress, no drama. Just
0:32a slight craving for a tuna salad
0:34sandwich and sourdough. But I let that
0:36one drift past. Today was packed with
0:39good stuff. Lots of water, a can of
0:41Aqualibra, a few black coffees. I took
0:44two good walks, one for an hour and
0:46another for half an hour, both with a
0:48bit of sunlight. Topped it all off with
0:50electrolytes and my vitamin D3 and K2.
0:52It felt like a day well supported. No
0:55real challenges worth mentioning, just a
0:58steady rhythm and weight wise, I’m down
1:00to 13 stone six pounds. Lovely bit of
1:02progress there. Measurements held
1:05steady. Now for the geeky bit, my
1:08glucose rose slightly from 54 to 70.2.
1:13Ketones bumped up from 6 to 6.9 and my
1:16GKI nudged from 0.5 to 0.6.
1:20But my resting heart rate has now
1:21dropped to 66 from 70.
1:24It might seem odd that glucose and
1:27ketones both went up, but that can
1:29happen as the body adapts and becomes
1:31more metabolically flexible. A mild
1:34increase in glucose could be a cortisol
1:36or movement related spike. The fact that
1:39ketones rose
1:41suggests that I’m I’m still in deep
1:44ketosis and a GKI of 0.6 is firmly in
1:48therapeutic range.
1:50In short, I’m not concerned. It feels
1:52like everything’s going beautifully.
1:54The big takeaway for me today was just
1:57how much sharper and more energized I
1:59feel. My mind feels alive and my body’s
2:03catching up to that vibe, looking and
2:05feeling tighter. Days like this are
2:08proper fuel for the soul.
2:11A we note to my future self or anyone
2:14else that’s walking this path on the
2:17down days and there have been several
2:21and it all feels a bit much. Remember
2:23that better days do come. Fasting isn’t
2:26a straight line. It’s a dance between
2:29highs and lows and both matter.
2:33If you’re tracking glucose and ketones,
2:35considering noting the time of your
2:37readings. First thing in the morning
2:39versus midday can tell very different
2:42stories. Patterns matter more than
2:45single points.
