Day 01 Fasting – Basics Done Right, Steady Start

The Anticipation Was Harder Than the Fast

Day one. Fresh out the gate. And honestly? Easier than expected.

I squeezed in about 5.5 hours of sleep, balanced it with an afternoon nap, and kept energy steady all day. No wobbles. No drama. Just a straightforward 24-hour fast with the basics done right.

The reality is this: if you’re planning a 24-hour fast, the anticipation is probably the hardest part. Once you’re rolling, it’s actually pretty straightforward. Here’s what day one looked like — no fancy tricks, no complicated protocols, just water, black coffee, and a bit of movement.

The Setup: Sleep Short, Energy Steady

I got up early after about 5.5 hours of sleep. Not ideal, but manageable. The trick? A cheeky afternoon nap to balance things out.

Energy-wise, no complaints. I felt perfectly steady all day. Mood sat around an 8 out of 10 — one of those days where everything just ticks along. No awkward moments. No big temptations. Just normal hunger nudges doing their thing.

Key lesson: If you’ve got an early start or a short night’s sleep before you fast, don’t underestimate the power of a quick afternoon nap. Recharge and keep moving forward.

What Actually Happened During the Fast

The day was uneventful in the best way possible. No challenges. No overwhelming hunger. Just a slight hunger nudge earlier this evening that came back around half past ten — pretty typical for the end of the first day.

What I did:

  • Got up early, stayed active
  • Drank plenty of water throughout the day
  • Black coffee (no milk, no sugar)
  • Evening walk for movement and fresh air
  • Stayed busy with work and daily tasks

What I didn’t do:

  • Overthink it
  • Use fancy supplements or tricks
  • Panic about hunger signals
  • Make it more complicated than it needed to be

The basics work. Water, coffee, movement, and keeping your mind occupied. That’s it.

The Weight Reality (And Why It Doesn’t Matter Yet)

Weighed in at 143 this morning — a bit higher than I’ve been of late. But that’s fine. Day one is about settling in, not celebrating massive drops.

Weight fluctuates daily based on water retention, glycogen stores, what you ate yesterday, how much salt you had, and a dozen other factors. The first day of fasting? The scale doesn’t tell you much yet.

What matters more:

  • How you feel (energy steady, mood good)
  • How your body responds (no crashes, no drama)
  • Whether you’re building consistency (first day done)

The weight will move. But not because of one day. It moves because of what you do repeatedly over weeks and months.

The Real Lesson: Doing Beats Worrying

Here’s what I’ve learned from years of fasting: the anticipation is harder than the actual fast.

You spend time wondering if you’ll struggle. If you’ll be starving. If you’ll have enough energy. If it’ll be miserable.

And then you do it and realise it’s… fine. Not easy, not hard. Just straightforward.

A 24-hour fast with a good night’s sleep really isn’t that tough. Once you’re rolling, your body adjusts. Hunger comes and goes in waves. You stay busy. You drink water. You keep moving. And before you know it, the day’s done.

This journey is way more than weight loss. It’s about the health benefits. The little wins along the way. The proof that your body can do more than you think.

🎯 Key Takeaways

Weight doesn’t tell the story yet — Day one is about settling in, not scale victories

Anticipation is harder than doing — The first 24 hours are more straightforward than you think

Basics work — Water, black coffee, movement. No fancy tricks needed

Short sleep? Nap — An afternoon recharge keeps energy steady

Hunger nudges are normal — Slight hunger at end of day one is typical, not a problem

Day 01 Fasting – Basics Done Right, Steady Start

0:01
Hey everyone, it’s day one of my fasting
0:03
and health journey. Fresh out the gate
0:06
and feeling good. Um, I got up early,
0:08
squeezed in about 5 and a half hours of
0:10
sleep, and balanced it out with a cheeky
0:12
afternoon nap. Energy wise, no
0:14
complaints today. Emotionally been
0:17
perfectly steady today. No wobbles, no
0:19
drama. Sometimes you just have those
0:22
days where everything ticks along and
0:23
I’ll take it. Uh, there weren’t any
0:25
awkward moments or big temptations. just
0:28
like slight hunger nudge um earlier this
0:31
evening which it’s now 2250
0:35
um and it’s still there it’s come back
0:38
last half hour um pretty typical for the
0:41
end of the first day of fasting um I
0:44
made sure to go out for a walk this
0:46
evening bit of movement bit of fresh air
0:48
keep things simple with plenty of water
0:50
and black coffee um no fancy tricks just
0:52
the basics done right today no
0:55
challenges at all um see how much weight
0:58
we’ve lost in the first day. I was 143
1:01
dead, which is a bit higher than I have
1:03
been of late, but let’s hope that that
1:06
moves in the right direction tomorrow
1:08
onwards. Um haven’t noticed any changes
1:11
in my body or mind as as we stand. Uh
1:13
but that again, first day just to be
1:15
expected. It’s all about settling in.
1:19
To anyone that’s um planning to do this,
1:23
a 24-hour fast with a good night’s um
1:25
sleep really isn’t that tough. Um the
1:29
anticipation is probably the hardest
1:30
part. Once you’re rolling, it’s actually
1:32
pretty straightforward.
1:34
So, here’s to small steps, honest
1:36
check-ins, and remembering this journey
1:38
is way more than weight loss. It’s not
1:40
just the weight loss. To be fair, the
1:42
weight loss in truth at this point is
1:44
actually the smaller part for me. I
1:45
would like the weight loss. So, I want
1:47
to get down a bit for certain, but it’s
1:51
more about the health benefits um and
1:55
the little wins along the way.
1:57
One thing um if you’ve got an early
1:59
start or a short night’s sleep um before
2:02
you you you fast, don’t underestimate
2:06
the power of a quick afternoon nap.
2:08
Recharge and keep moving forward.
