Day 05 Fasting: Sunshine, Cravings & Small Wins

Five days into a fast, and things are clicking into place. Not perfectly—there were cheese cravings and cold moments—but steadily. 14 stone and three-quarters of a pound. Down 1.2 since yesterday.

But here’s what actually mattered today: two hours in the garden. Twenty-five degrees. Proper sunshine. The kind that reminds you this isn’t just about numbers on a scale—it’s about energy, clarity, and feeling like yourself again.

Hunger pangs came and went. Odd cravings popped up (cheese and cream, of all things). And I handled them. One wave at a time. Because that’s how fasting works when you’re five days in: you don’t fight the process. You just ride it out.

The Numbers Are Moving (But That’s Not the Win)

Physical: 8/10. Energy’s been solid. Hunger’s manageable. Sleep’s fine.

Mood: 8/10. Genuinely pleased with how this feels. Not euphoric—just steady.

Mental: 7/10. Better than I expected at this stage. Clear-headed. No brain fog.

Weight: 14 stone ¾ lb. Down 1.2 from yesterday. Total loss since starting: about 1.2 stone.

The scale’s moving, yes. But the real progress? It’s in how I’m handling the awkward moments. The cravings. The hunger pangs that show up mid-afternoon and try to derail focus. Today, I didn’t let them.

Cravings Are Just Noise

Here’s the odd bit: I found myself craving cheese and cream today. Not chocolate. Not bread. Cheese. And cream.

I have no idea where that came from. Maybe it’s my body asking for fat. Maybe it’s just randomness. Either way, it passed.

Hunger pangs came in waves too. Not constant. Not overwhelming. Just… there. And then gone again fifteen minutes later.

That’s the thing about fasting past Day 3. Your body stops screaming for food every two hours. It adjusts. And when hunger does show up, it’s more of a polite knock than a sledgehammer.

The key? Don’t overthink it. Notice it. Acknowledge it. Let it pass. How you feel right now won’t be how you feel in twenty minutes.

Two Hours in the Sunshine (The Actual Highlight)

I took a proper break today. Two hours outside. Garden. Sunshine. Twenty-five degrees.

And it was exactly what I needed.

Fasting can be mentally intense—not because it’s physically hard, but because you’re breaking decades of autopilot eating patterns. And sometimes, the best thing you can do is step away from the work, the screens, the constant noise, and just… exist.

Light exercise helped. A walk. Some gentle stretching. Nothing intense. Just movement.

But the sunshine? That was the reset button. Natural light. Fresh air. The kind of recharge you can’t get from scrolling your phone or powering through another hour of work.

If you’re fasting—or even if you’re not—and you’re feeling mentally stuck, go outside. Even five minutes. It helps more than you’d think.

Autophagy Is Rolling (And I Feel Fine)

Five days in means autophagy is well underway. That’s the body’s repair process—cleaning out damaged cells, recycling protein, doing the maintenance work it never gets time for when you’re eating three meals a day.

And here’s the thing: no major side effects. No pain. No weird symptoms. No panic moments.

I’m cold to the bone occasionally—that’s standard for extended fasts. But nothing alarming. Nothing that makes me think “this isn’t right.”

The body knows what it’s doing. My job is just to stay out of the way and let it work.

Small Victories Matter

Progress doesn’t have to look dramatic to feel encouraging.

Today wasn’t a breakthrough day. I didn’t wake up with perfect clarity or boundless energy or some profound insight about life. I just… kept going. Handled the cravings. Enjoyed the sunshine. Stayed steady.

And that’s enough.

Because fasting—real, sustainable fasting—isn’t about willpower or suffering through hunger. It’s about building a rhythm where your body adapts, your mind clears, and you stop fighting yourself every step of the way.

The wins don’t have to be big. They just have to be consistent.

🎯 Key Takeaways

  • Cravings pass — Cheese and cream cravings showed up, then left. Don’t overthink them.
  • Sunshine recharges — Two hours outside in 25-degree weather was the real win today.
  • Handle it moment by moment — How you feel now won’t be how you feel in 15 minutes.
  • Autophagy is active — Five days in, repair processes are well underway with no major side effects.
  • Small wins count — Progress doesn’t have to look dramatic to feel encouraging.

0:02Hi everyone. Um, it’s day five of my

0:04journey and honestly things are feeling

0:07really positive right now. Uh,

0:09physically I’m running at a steady 8 out

0:11of 10. Energy’s been good. Hunger’s been

0:13manageable. Sleep’s been fine. And there

0:16haven’t been any strange symptoms

0:17cropping up. Moodwise, another solid

0:21eight. Um, I’m genuinely pleased.

0:23Mentally, maybe not absolutely top tier,

0:26but actually better than I expected at

0:28this stage. Um, it’s been a great little

0:30reminder that progress doesn’t have to

0:32look dramatic to feel encouraging.

0:35Hunger pangs definitely made their

0:36appearance today, coming and going in

0:38waves. And for some reason, I found

0:40myself really craving cheese and cream.

0:42I have no idea where that came from. Um,

0:46but nothing too overwhelming, just one

0:48of those little quirks of fasting.

0:50On the plus side, I managed a bit of

0:52light exercise, but the real highlight

0:54was taking a proper 2-hour break outside

0:57in the garden. The sun was shining. It

0:59was 25 degrees today and it honestly

1:02gave me a proper recharge. Um, and

1:04sometimes that’s exactly what you need

1:06to reset both the mind and the body and

1:08it just helps. And here’s a number to

1:11celebrate. Down a good 12 now at 14

1:14stone and 3/4 of a pound. Um, I know

1:18it’s not just numbers on the scale,

1:21but it does help. Um, I’ve got to say I

1:24do like seeing numbers go that way. um

1:27when you’re fasting. Um

1:315 days in, autophagy is well on its way.

1:35Um and I’ve had no major side effects,

1:38no pain issues anywhere that I’m aware

1:40of. So that’s good. Um no major changes

1:44to report in my body or habits just yet,

1:45but I am noticing how little things like

1:47hunger pangs, odd cravings, or those

1:49classic cold to the bone fasting moments

1:51can pop up and try and throw me off

1:53course.

1:54The main thing I’m reminding myself for

1:56is um just handle it when it turns up.

1:59One bit at a time. No need to get

2:01thrown. Just keep steady and deal with

2:03the issues. How you feel now is probably

2:06going to be very different to how you’re

2:07going to feel in 15, 20 minutes time. So

2:10that’s day five’s progress. A few

2:12cravings, some sunshine, and a reminder

2:15that this journey really is about more

2:17than weight loss. It’s about real

2:18health, small victories, and building a

2:21life that feels good every single day.

2:24If you can take a bit of time outdoors,

2:26it’s always good. Even if it’s just a

2:28few minutes, you might be surprised at

2:30just how much it can help you recharge.

2:33See you tomorrow.
