Day 04 Fasting: The Fog Lifts and Balance Returns

When the Mental Fog Finally Clears

Day four. This is where things shift.

The brain fog from yesterday? Gone. The sluggishness? Mostly cleared by afternoon. The constant chill I’d been complaining about? Didn’t show up once today.

Weight this morning: 14 stone 3¼ — nearly 10 pounds down in three and a half days. Most of that is water weight, which makes sense. The stress of moving house had me holding onto a few extra pounds. Now the body’s letting go.

This is what I mean by “the fog lifts.” Not just mentally, but physically. Day four felt like crossing a threshold.

The Physical Reset

Mornings are still a bit slow. Woke at 6:30, which is earlier than I’d like, but it didn’t throw me off. Physically sluggish until lunchtime, then energy picked up through the afternoon.

Hunger barely registered today. Maybe three occasions, 15–20 minutes each. Nothing like the constant gnawing on day two. This is normal — once you’re past the 72-hour mark, hunger tends to settle.

Made a couple of tweaks:

  • Added fasting electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium)
  • Started taking vitamin D3 with K2 (supporting the body during a longer fast)

Gut health? All clear. No discomfort, no issues.

The Body Composition Shift

Funny observation: my stomach looks a bit more pronounced at the moment. But the sides have gone in. It’s like everything’s shifting around.

This is what happens when you fast. The body’s busy behind the scenes — redistributing water, mobilising fat stores, rebalancing systems. It doesn’t happen in a straight line. Some days the belly looks bigger even as the weight drops. Trust the process.

The Easier Day Four

I’ve done about a dozen fasts where I’ve reached day four. This one was the easiest.

Normally, it’s day five or six before I feel this steady. Today, I felt it on day four. I think that’s because I’ve been fasting more frequently. The body adapts. It remembers.

If you’re aiming for a longer fast — five days, seven days, maybe more — stick with it past day three. That’s the turning point. The chills ease, the hunger backs off, the mental clarity returns.

Why Longer Fasts?

The main reason I’m going longer this time is autophagy.

Autophagy is the body’s cellular clean-up process. Think of it like your body’s internal repair crew. They clear out damaged cells, recycle proteins, and tidy up systems that have been running for decades without a proper service.

Autophagy ramps up significantly around the 48–72 hour mark of a fast. That’s when the real metabolic work begins. (I’ll cover this in detail in a separate video — look for “Autophagy Explained” on the website or YouTube.)

The Small Wins

Mood today: solid. No emotional wobbles. Just steady and present.

Got out for a walk this afternoon. Nothing strenuous, just movement. A stretch, a few deep breaths, whatever helps you feel grounded.

One tip: if you notice you’re feeling less chilly as the fast goes on, it’s a good sign. Your body’s adapting. It’s accepting the fast and switching fuel sources from glucose to fat.

That metabolic switch is what we’re after.

🎯 Key Takeaways

Small tweaks matter — Fasting electrolytes and vitamin D3 with K2 support the process

Day four felt easier than previous fasts — Frequent fasting builds metabolic flexibility

10 pounds down in 3½ days — Mostly water weight, which is normal early in a fast

Hunger backed off significantly — Past 72 hours, hunger typically settles

Body composition shifts visibly — Sides go in, belly may look more pronounced temporarily

Autophagy begins ramping up — 48–72 hours is when cellular repair accelerates

0:02Hey everyone, it’s day four of my

0:04journey with way more than weight loss

0:06and I’m genuinely pleased to say things

0:08are starting to settle in today. My

0:11mental engine’s been steady so much

0:14better than yesterday. No brain fog or

0:16sluggishness, which is a massive win in

0:18itself. Physically felt a bit down at

0:21times. Um certainly the first half of

0:23the day I was a bit sluggish physically.

0:26Um but that picked up this afternoon and

0:28evening. Um great win. Haven’t felt

0:32those typical fasting chills today. Um

0:36so I was complaining about them

0:37yesterday. Today, nope, not once. So

0:40that was really nice. Um that was really

0:43nice. Um sleep was good. Um woke up a

0:47bit early at 6:30, but it didn’t throw

0:49me off. and hunger today. It’s barely

0:52been on my radar,

0:54which is a relief compared to the last

0:56few days where it’s been, well, on day

0:58two, it was really constant. Today, day

1:00four, it’s barely been there. There’s

1:03maybe been three occasions for 15, 20

1:06minutes. Moodwise, I’m solid. No

1:09emotional wobbles. Just steady and

1:10present. Um, no big challenges or

1:13cravings cropped up either. And, um, I

1:15got out for a walk this um, afternoon.

1:17Um, so that was pleasant.

1:20made a couple of positive tweaks. Um,

1:22started fasting electrolytes and added

1:25vitamin D3 with K2. Um, just to help

1:28support the body. Um, because this is

1:31going to be a longer fast. Weighing this

1:34morning was really good. Uh, 14 stone,

1:36three and a quarter. So, that’s nearly

1:3710 pounds in three and a half days.

1:41Of course, most of that is water weight.

1:43Um, my body’s letting go of what it’s

1:46been holding on to. Um, which is fair

1:49cuz with the stress of moving, um, and

1:53now having done that, um, I did notice

1:56my weight increase by three or four,

1:58even five pounds over the last month

2:01from where it’s been steady for

2:04the last three months. So,

2:07I think I can definitely put that down

2:08to just the stress of getting everything

2:10sorted. So, that’s good. Um,

2:15funny little observation. My stomach

2:17looks a bit more pronounced at the

2:18moment. Um, but looks like the sides

2:22have gone in, which I suppose makes the

2:26front look bigger.

2:28Um, it’s just everything shift shifting.

2:31The body’s always busy behind the

2:32scenes. Um,

2:37something to think on. Um once you get

2:40past the first three days, it does get a

2:42bit easier. Day four felt like a fresh

2:46chapter. Um if you’re going for a longer

2:49fast, stick with it. It can be done. Um

2:54and

2:55I’ve done now probably coming on for a

2:57dozen fasts where I’ve got to day four.

3:00And I’ve got to say this one was the

3:03easiest day four. I’m normally day five

3:05or six before it gets easier. Today was

3:08a really good day. So really pleased

3:11with that. Um I suppose the more you

3:16fast on a frequent basis, the the the

3:18easier it gets. Gutwise, all clear, no

3:21discomforts, no issues to report. Um

3:25so that’s uh day four done.

3:30It’s just a gentle reminder really. It’s

3:32about more than weight. It’s about

3:34feeling better, building healthier

3:35habits, and knowing that every day

3:38counts. So,

3:40I’ll talk about this on a separate

3:42video, but it’s more about build the the

3:44the main reason for going into fasting

3:47on a longer basis is to get into

3:49autophagy. So, have a look at that

3:52video. Um

3:55um it’ll be in the on the website and on

3:58YouTube. Um tip, if you notice you’re

4:02feeling um less chilly as the fast goes

4:04on, it’s a good sign um your body’s

4:07adapting and starting to accept it. Keep

4:10up with the small winds. Um a walk, a

4:13stretch, a few deep breaths, whatever

4:15helps you feel grounded. Catch you

4:17tomorrow. Um keep going one day at a

4:20time.
