The Easy Refeed (And Why That’s Worth Noting)
Day 4 of my refeed, and it’s been steady all around. Weight holding at the same as yesterday, digestion fine, no cravings, no stress. Two walks, fermented foods at every meal, and a 10-hour eating window that felt natural.
I realise how fortunate I am that my gut seems to refeed quite easily. For most people, this process can take longer and feel bumpier — bloating, sluggish digestion, energy swings. That’s completely normal. Your body’s waking up digestive enzymes and rebuilding gut bacteria after a period of low intake or fasting.
For me, the challenge isn’t physical discomfort. It’s portion control. When the food tastes this good — sausages and mash with onion gravy, sauerkraut, beetroot kimchi — it’s easy to override the internal signals that say “enough.” That’s my ongoing work: slowing down, checking in, putting the cutlery down between bites.
What I Ate (And Why It Matters for Your Gut)
Day 4 was all about supporting the microbiome:
Morning and afternoon:
- Three soups (tomato with leek, fennel, cabbage, and onion; vegetable soup)
- Nuts, berries, yogurt mid-afternoon
Evening meal (10-hour window):
- Sausages and mashed potato with onion gravy
- Crackers, cheese, sauerkraut, beetroot kimchi (finished around 7pm)
The fermented foods — sauerkraut and kimchi — aren’t just flavour. They’re delivering live bacteria that help diversify and rebuild gut flora. During refeed, your digestive system is coming back online. Enzymes are ramping up. Bacteria are multiplying. The soups, fibre, and fermented foods are all part of that groundwork.
Even if it feels easy now, this process is supporting long-term resilience.
The Portion Control Puzzle
Here’s the thing I’m noticing: awareness doesn’t automatically translate to action.
I know the food tastes incredible. I know I’m eating for pleasure, not hunger. I can feel the moment when I’ve had enough. But stopping at that moment? That’s the gap.
It’s not about willpower or restriction. It’s about tuning back into fullness signals and enjoying every mouthful — rather than eating on autopilot because the plate’s in front of me.
Tomorrow’s experiment: putting my cutlery down between bites. Simple. Deliberate. A way to slow down and check in.
Steady Metrics
Weight: Same as yesterday
Digestion: Two good bowel movements, no discomfort
Energy: Woke early (5am), but had a 90-minute nap this afternoon
Mood: Stable, no ups or downs
Hydration: Decent throughout the day
Movement: Two walks (5:30am and evening)
No dramatic shifts. No new patterns. Just steady progress.
What’s Supporting This Refeed
A few things are making this easier:
- No cravings or stress — When life’s calm, eating stays calm
- Gentle movement — Walks bookend the day without overdoing it
- Fermented foods — Sauerkraut and kimchi at every meal
- Soups — Easy to digest, nutrient-dense, warming
- 10-hour eating window — Keeps structure without feeling restrictive
It’s not perfect. But it’s working.
A Note to My Future Self
I feel really lucky that my gut seems to refeed quite easily with little or no issues. I’m well aware that for most people, this process can take longer and feel bumpier.
For me, it’s portion control. The food tastes so good that I do sometimes struggle to really listen to my internal senses that I’ve had enough. That’s a gentle reminder to slow down and check in.
🎯 Key Takeaways
Steady metrics = progress — Weight stable, digestion fine, mood solid. No drama, just consistent rebuilding.
Easy refeeds aren’t universal — Many people experience bloating, sluggish digestion, or energy swings during refeed. That’s normal.
Fermented foods rebuild gut flora — Sauerkraut and kimchi deliver live bacteria that support long-term digestive resilience.
Portion control is the challenge — Awareness of fullness signals doesn’t automatically translate to stopping at the right moment.
Gentle movement supports digestion — Two walks (morning and evening) kept things steady without overdoing it.

0:01Hi everyone. It’s day four of my refeed
0:04journey, and today has been a pretty
0:05steady one all around. Physically, I’ve
0:08felt fine. Woke up a bit early at 5:00
0:10a.m., but I did manage a lovely
0:1190-minute nap this afternoon, which
0:13balanced things out nicely. Digestion’s
0:16been fine. No hunger issues to speak of,
0:18two good bowel movements, and my
0:19weight’s the same as yesterday.
0:21Emotionally,
0:23it’s been great. No real ups or downs,
0:25which is always good. Um,
0:29what’s made today easier was definitely
0:30a total lack of cravings or stress. That
0:33really helps things feel smooth. I got
0:35in a couple of walks, one bright and
0:37early at half five and another this
0:39evening. So, that gentle movements felt
0:41supportive. I was mindful with portion
0:43control at tea time. Had sausages and
0:45mashed with onion gravy and then wrapped
0:48up with a couple of crackers, cheese,
0:49sauerkraut, and beetroot kimchi around
0:51seven. Keeping to a nice 10-hour window.
0:54Hydration’s been decent, too.
0:57Uh food’s flowed nicely. Had um three
0:59soups over this span of this morning. Um
1:02a tomato with leak, fennel, cabbage, and
1:04onion and then a veg soup. And mid-after
1:06afternoon had a few nuts and berries
1:08with some yogurt.
1:10No changes in weight or digestion today,
1:12just steady. I haven’t noticed anything
1:14particularly new about my body or habits
1:15today either.
1:19A message to my future self, I guess. I
1:20just want to say I feel really lucky
1:22that my gut seems to refeed quite easily
1:24with little or no issues. I’m well aware
1:28that for most people this process can
1:29take longer and feel bumpier.
1:32For me, it’s portion control. The food
1:34tastes so good that I do sometimes
1:36struggle to really listen to my internal
1:38senses that I’ve had enough. That’s a
1:40gentle reminder for myself to slow down
1:42and check in.
1:44Insight for the day. During refeed, the
1:46body is steadily waking up digestive
1:48enzymes and gut bacteria after a period
1:51of fasting or low intake. The soups,
1:53fermentss, and mindful portions are all
1:55helping your gut flora diversify and
1:57rebuild.
1:59So, even if it does feel easy now, this
2:00groundwork is supporting long-term
2:02resilience.
2:05Same as yesterday, I’m going to try and
2:07put my cutlery down between bites again
2:10tomorrow as I did today. It’s a simple
2:13way to tune back into fullness singles
2:16and enjoy every mouthful,
2:18especially when the food’s been this
2:20tasty. If you like this video, please

2:25to get the message out to more people.
2:27I’ll see you tomorrow on day five of my
2:29refeed.
