The Small Victories Add Up
Sixteen days in. Feeling solid at 8 out of 10 physically and mentally. Not perfect, but steady.
And that’s the thing about extended fasting nobody tells you. It’s not about feeling brilliant every moment. It’s about noticing what’s happening, adjusting when needed, and trusting the process.
Today brought two moments of dizziness on waking. Not alarming, just something to track. Split sleep — 5 hours overnight, then a 3-hour nap after a two-hour walk around Leeds. Mood stayed good. Energy steady.
The hardest bit? Walking past the eateries in town. Those food smells catch you off guard. But I stayed mindful. And that’s the win.
The Challenge Nobody Mentions
Food smells are sneaky during a fast.
You’re walking through Leeds, feeling fine, energy good. Then you pass a bakery or a chippy. And suddenly your brain lights up like a Christmas tree.
It’s not hunger. It’s pattern recognition. Your brain remembers pleasure, comfort, routine. And it wants you to engage.
The question I asked myself today: Am I actually hungry, or just craving something because of a smell?
Most of the time, it’s the second one.
What’s Actually Keeping Me Going
The basics still matter:
- Water — plenty of it
- Electrolytes — sodium, potassium, magnesium
- Vitamin D3 and K2 — bone health, immune support
- Sunlight — two-hour walk in Leeds today
- Naps — three hours this afternoon, and I’m not apologising for it
Never underestimate a nap during fasting. They’re not lazy. They’re recovery.
The Numbers: Down Another Pound
13 stone 2.5 pounds today. Down a pound from yesterday.
No dramatic shifts in how I feel. Still positive. Still thinking clearly. No brain fog, no weakness.
And with autophagy definitely active by now (we’re well past the 48-hour mark), this isn’t just weight loss. It’s cellular repair. Old proteins getting recycled. Mitochondria getting a tune-up.
The weight? That’s just the easy measure.
Managing the Dizziness
That lightheaded feeling on waking can be pretty normal when fasting.
Your blood pressure and hydration levels dip overnight or during sleep. It’s your body adjusting to running on fat instead of glucose.
What helps:
- Keep electrolytes up (not just water)
- Stand up slowly (which I didn’t do today — lesson learned)
- Stay well hydrated throughout the day
Listen to your body. Rest when you need to.
🎯 Key Takeaways
Dizziness on waking is normal — Electrolytes and slow movements help
8/10 physically and mentally — Steady progress, not perfection
Food smells are the real test — Mindfulness beats willpower
Naps are recovery, not laziness — Three-hour nap after a two-hour walk
Down 1 pound to 13 stone 2.5 — Weight moving consistently
Autophagy is active — Real health benefits beyond the scales
