32 Plants. Grey Day: Inside vs Outside Gut Garden Fed

Some days you wake up motivated. Energy high, sun out, ready to smash it.

Other days? Grey sky, grey mood, zero desire to move. Day 32 was one of those.

But here’s what nobody tells you about building sustainable health habits: the grey Wednesdays matter more than the good days. When motivation tanks, rhythm holds you steady. And on this particular Wednesday, my gut garden got exactly what it needed — even if the rest of me felt like staying horizontal.

The Day Motivation Didn’t Show Up

Midway through week five of the Rhythm Reset. Eating window day — 12pm to 4pm, four hours to fuel up.

Woke before I wanted to. Looked outside. Rain. Low cloud. That flat November grey that makes you want to pull the duvet back over your head.

No run. No walk. Just desk work and coffee until noon.

But 12 o’clock came round, and the window opened. Not because I felt like it. Because it’s Wednesday. And Wednesday is 12-4.

What I Actually Ate (And Why It Matters)

Four hours. This is what went in:

  • Rye crackers with pate
  • Red pepper soup
  • Pork shoulder with crushed garlic potatoes
  • Handful of nuts and berries

Done by 4pm. Window closed.

32 different plants across four hours. 34 grams of fiber.

The gut garden got its diversity fix, even if the rest of the day felt like sitting in a grey box.

Weight: 13 stone 8 pounds. Same as yesterday. Same as last week.

And that’s the point. Rhythm holds you steady when motivation doesn’t.

Why Grey Days Are the Real Test

This is the bit nobody tells you about fasting or eating windows.

It’s not the easy days that matter. It’s the grey Wednesdays. The days where discipline is the only thing left standing.

You can’t motivate your way through 70 days. Or 700 days. You need a rhythm that works when you don’t feel like working.

That’s what an eating window does. It removes the decision when you’re too tired to make good decisions.

12pm arrives. Window opens. You eat. 4pm arrives. Window closes. You stop.

Grey mood or good mood — doesn’t matter. The rhythm keeps moving.

The Gut Garden Doesn’t Care How You Feel

Your microbiome doesn’t know it’s a rubbish Wednesday.

It just knows: did it get fiber today? Did it get diversity? Did it get the fuel it needs to keep you healthy?

32 plants. 34 grams of fiber. Job done.

That’s the inside work happening while the outside feels flat. Your gut bacteria are having a party. Your metabolic health is ticking along. Your body is doing what bodies do when you give them consistent, diverse nutrition.

Even on grey days.

🎯 Key Takeaways

Motivation is unreliable — Build rhythms that work when you don’t feel like it
